A superb first half strike from Jayden Nielsen saw the Peacocks defeat Basingstoke Town 1-0 in the 3rd Round Qualifying of the Isuzu FA Trophy this afternoon.
In gusty conditions neither side gained the upper hand until the 27th minute when Nielsen picked the ball up on the right and played a 1-2 with Tom Smith before curling a beauty into Simon Grant’s bottom corner. The second half saw the visitors begin to boss proceedings but couldn’t find a way past stand-in keeper Lloyd Irish who pulled off several fine saves, having only been called up to play two hours prior to kick-off. The win extends the Peacocks unbeaten run to ten games as they now prepare for next Saturday’s big FA Cup meeting with Maidenhead United.
