We are delighted to welcome new signing Jay Malshanskyj to the club. The 23 year old striker has joined the Peacocks from Southern League Division One South side Bishops Cleeve and made his Taunton debut as a second half substitute in last night’s game at home to Swindon Supermarine.
In his early career Jay was with Forest Green Rovers where he was a member of their Under 18 side and then went on to join Weston-super-Mare ahead of the 2019-20 season. Spells then followed at Cirencester Town, Yate Town and Slimbridge during the next couple of curtailed seasons before he signed for Melksham Town in June 2021, going on to establish himself as he netted 23 goals over the next two years. A move to Bishops Cleeve followed for last season when he scored a further 19 goals and has already scored six from 11 appearances this campaign when his performances have caught the eye.
Jay told us:” Once I heard Luffers showed interest in signing me I knew joining Taunton was a no brainer! It’s a massive club with ambition so when this opportunity came about I knew I had to take it. As a player you should always play as high as you possibly can and test yourself at the next level. I can’t wait to work with the gaffer, his staff and also the players to understand the way we play. Can’t wait to get going and score some goals in front of all the fans!”
Peacocks’ boss Richard Luffman added:” I’m delighted to bring Jay to the football club. He is a powerful, skilful and versatile forward who played against my Cribbs team last year and caused us loads of problems. He can go off both sides and is someone we feel that with his age and his background in football can really progress for the football club over the next couple of years. In terms of joining at this time It’s good timing for him as he gets to shadow the squad for the next week and a half to learn our structure and how we play so that when he’s back available for the next league fixture on 12th October he’s ready to really kick on and be another forward threat for us. We can’t wait for him to score goals for the club, and we’re delighted to have him with us.”
