Following the recent sad passing of Tom Harris, we are delighted to confirm that another long-standing stalwart of many years Harold Needs will assume the role of Club President.
Harold has been involved with the Peacocks for over 60 years in a variety of roles, his love affair with the club beginning in the mid 1950’s when he attended a game along with wife Marina and was persuaded into helping on match days, going on to man the old pay box at the Hamilton Road end of the ground. He went on join the Supporters club, becoming Vice Chairman and then Secretary. Along with Supporters’ Club President Tom Harris and Chairman Frank Summers, the trio were referred to as the Three Musketeers!
Taunton Town FC became a Limited Company in the 1960’s and the Supporters club joined the main Football Committee with Harold being voted in as Vice Chairman. He has since gone on to provide many years of service to the club as a Director and in more recent years along with wife Marina as Boardroom Host for visiting officials, a role they both fulfilled with great dedication until stepping down in 2020. Now they just enjoy watching the action both home and away, rarely missing a game including last month’s trip to Chelmsford City where Harold is captured by Club Photographer Debbie Gould enjoying some autumn sunshine.
Harold commented:” It is an honour and a privilege to be appointed Club President. After all the many years I have been involved with Taunton Town I still get great pleasure from attending games. The club has come such a long way since I first came on board all those years ago and I look forward to continuing to see the Peacocks progress.”
