The Peacocks maintained their unbeaten pre-season record when they came from behind to beat Melksham Town 3-2 in a friendly yesterday evening (2nd August).
Matt Wright fired Town in front from the penalty spot on the quarter hour after Andrew Neal had been pulled down but it was the home side that enjoyed the best of the play without capitalising on several opportunities.
Melksham drew level four minutes into the second half when Ben Thomson’s shot into the box fell for Neikell Plummer to fire past Lloyd Irish and Luke Ballinger’s header crept inside the post to hand the hosts the lead just past the hour. The Peacocks were back on terms after 70 minutes when Wright headed home Neal’s fine cross from the right and Craig Veal notched what proved to be the winner 13 minutes from time, netting from seven yards after Wright had nodded down Neal’s cross.
Reaction | manager Leigh Robinson said: “We were a long way from our best last night and the players know it but it was a good fitness exercise against a very committed team and with the players we were missing, a good opportunity for most of the team to play 90 minutes.”
