With the capture of four attack-minded players already confirmed for the Peacocks ahead of the 2024-25 season, it’s time to start balancing the squad out as we welcome defender Toby Down back to the club.

Toby’s first spell at Taunton began in January 2018 following his departure from Exeter City where he had progressed through their Academy, whilst also spending time on loan at both Dorchester Town and Weymouth. He went on to make 15 full and 5 sub appearances for the Peacocks during their Southern League title winning campaign but left at the end of the season to join Bideford where he featured for the next four years. After signing for Tiverton in the summer of 2022, he switched to Plymouth Parkway in October of that year where his strong performances at centre half earned him the Parkway Supporters’ Player of the Year award for last season.

Toby told club media:” I’m delighted to sign for a massive football club in the local area and can’t wait to pull on a Taunton shirt again and get stuck into the season in front of a proper crowd.”

Taunton manager Richard Luffman is delighted to secure another one of his targets, saying:” Toby was someone we had on our radar from the moment I was appointed in the job. A proper defender who’s got unfinished business at Taunton and someone who will no doubt thrive within our club again. Toby plays off both sides centrally in the back four and is someone who strikers won’t want to play against. I’m really excited to work with him.”
