The Peacocks rose to the top of the Southern League Premier South with a tense 2-1 victory over Yate Town in front of a four figure crowd at the Cygnet Health Care Stadium this evening.
The win was fully deserved overall although Town had to survive a few nervy moments in the closing stages after the visitors had pulled a goal back. Joe Guest put the Peacocks ahead after 31 minutes with his first goal for the club, drilling a screamer into the far corner from a Lloyd James cross after a bout of pressure in the box before the hosts doubled their lead five minutes into the second half, Gethyn Hill’s cross being diverted in by Ross Staley via a Yate defender. Town were in total control until Yate reduced the arrears on 70 minutes when James Harding was unmarked to head in a cross from the right. The Bluebells lost Liam Angel to two quickfire yellow cards in the last ten minutes as Town stood firm to claim a truly vital win and leave them needing four points from the final two games to secure promotion to the National League South.
