The Peacocks recorded a 5-1 victory over Bideford in their latest pre-season warm-up game behind closed doors at the Cygnet Health Care Stadium this evening (1st September). The game allowed the club’s matchday volunteers an opportunity to prepare for Friday’s meeting with Chippenham when supporters will be able to attend.
A neat move down the right saw Town take the lead after nine minutes, Owen Howe exchanging passes with Luke Spokes before crossing into the middle for Ollie Chamberlain to steer home. Jamie Short’s driven cross was then turned in by Toby Holmes to double the lead on 23 minutes while Nick Grimes added a third after 32 minutes when he headed in Jay Foulston’s corner.
Chamberlain played in Holmes who tucked the ball past Liam Kingston for his second goal of the evening on 63 minutes before Bideford reduced the arrears with twenty minutes remaining when a corner from the left was eventually netted by Ryan Turner. A lovely corner routine then saw Spokes drive home the final goal of the match from the edge of the box on 80 minutes.
