The Peacocks rose to the top of the Southern League Premier South table after a dramatic late winner from Ben Adelsbury saw them beat Weston-super-Mare 3-2 in front of a four figure crowd at the Cygnet Health Care Stadium this afternoon. The visitors were the better side for large parts of the game but found themselves trailing after 11 minutes, Gethyn Hill heading in from an Adelsbury cross. The Seagulls nearly responded immediately when Scott Laird’s angled strike hit the post before the hosts doubled their lead on 28 minutes, Hill’s cross falling to Joe Budd who drilled home his first Town goal.
Weston pulled one back three minutes before the break when Will Buse saved from Dayle Grubb and Jordan Bastin slotted home the rebound while Buse tipped Laird’s shot onto a post. The second half was only five minutes old when Kieran Richards drove a superb strike into the far corner for the Weston equaliser and they went on to look the likelier side to snatch a decisive winner. However, not for the first time this season, the Peacocks found a way to win the game. Jared Lewington was fouled and up stepped Adelsbury a minute from time to fire home a terrific free kick from 25 yards to send the home fans into raptures. With leaders Metropolitan Police dropping points against Harrow Borough, Town now lead the table by a point with games in hand!
