The Peacocks are preparing to play their first Vanarama National League South home game in six weeks when they welcome Chippenham Town to Wordsworth Drive tomorrow evening (20th March), ko 7.45pm.
Six successive postponements due to a waterlogged pitch, apart from severely impacting the club’s financial position, has also forced Town to undertake six away games on the bounce since they last set foot on home soil against Truro City on 6th February. Those half dozen games have resulted in a draw, two victories and three defeats, with the most recent of those coming with Saturday’s 2-0 reverse at fellow strugglers Eastbourne Borough. That loss was especially disappointing given the two previous outings when excellent victories had been recorded at Worthing and Torquay United so with eight fixtures still to play at Wordsworth Drive, the Peacocks will want to make home advantage count starting with the visit of the Bluebirds tomorrow. And if the fixture earlier in the season is anything to go by, it could be a cracker!
Chippenham occupy a relatively comfortable 13th place in the table with 51 points from 38 matches played which all but secures their National League status for another year. They approach tomorrow’s meeting with confidence having hit form in their last two games which has seen them win 3-1 at leaders Yeovil Town and then repeat that scoreline at home to Worthing on Saturday so a difficult test awaits the Peacocks on their ‘homecoming’.
There are currently no issues with the pitch and no inspection is planned. Town name the same squad from the weekend with Head of Football Rob Dray remarking:” After a long run of consecutive away games and having travelled 1000 away miles in a week, we look forward to starting eight home games in a short spell of time and playing in front of our home fans. However we must improve on Saturday and replicate the levels of our two games last week.”

Last meeting: it proved a thrilling game when the sides met at Hardenhuish Park in September. The home side were two up inside the opening half hour through goals from Nat Williams and an Ollie Chamberlain own goal. Nat Jarvis pulled one back for the Peacocks after the break but when Luke Spokes added a third for the Bluebirds that seemed to settle it. However Ross Stearn reduced the arrears with four minutes left before Chamberlain’s strike earnt a point deep into stoppage time. Relive the match highlights HERE
