The last game of 2023 is nearly here and it’s a big one as the Peacocks prepare to take on Yeovil Town in the Vanarama National League South for the second time in five days tomorrow (31st December), ko 3.00pm.
There will be a sell-out crowd at the Somerset Campervan Co Stadium to see Taunton tackle a Glovers’ side which went ten points clear at the summit of the table following their 4-1 Boxing Day victory at Huish Park, their 13th win in 18 league games. There can be no disputing that Yeovil were the much better side on the day but if the Peacocks want to redress the balance they will take some optimism from the fact that all three of the Glovers’ league defeats this season have come on the road albeit only one of those has been in recent weeks when they lost heavily at Welling United at the end of November. Town meanwhile possess an impressive record at home with only one defeat from their ten fixtures played and minds will no doubt be cast back to the last time Yeovil made the short trip to the county town last season for an FA Cup replay when a Lloyd James penalty steered the Peacocks into the 1st Round Proper.
The home side name an unchanged squad from Boxing Day, with new recruit Louie Slough not eligible as he was signed after the deadline. Head of Football Rob Dray said:” We go again tomorrow and we have an opportunity to show what we are capable of. Yeovil proved why they are top of the league on Tuesday, but I know we can do better. Our record at home is good and there is no better time to keep that going than in a big Somerset derby in front of a capacity crowd.”
