The Peacocks will look to bounce back from the frustration of the weekend when they travel to Bath City in the Vanarama National League South tomorrow evening (24th October), ko 7.45pm.
The tantalising Somerset derby gives Town a quick opportunity to get Saturday’s 1-0 reverse to Hampton & Richmond Borough out of their system, only their second defeat in the League this season following a run of ten games unbeaten. Despite defeat the Peacocks remain in 2nd place but only one point clear of a trio of clubs, one of which is Bath who also suffered just their second loss of the campaign at the weekend when they surrendered a 2-1 lead to lose 3-2 at Tonbridge Angels, not helped by losing goalkeeper Ollie Wright with a dislocated shoulder at half time.
Before their defeat to Tonbridge, the Romans had enjoyed an eight match unbeaten run which they had amassed after experiencing their only home loss of the season to date when Weston-super-Mare had run riot with a 6-2 victory at Twerton Park in August. City striker Scott Wilson heads the goalscoring charts for the National League South with 9 goals from 11 games while summer recruit from North Leigh Jordan Thomas has also weighed in with 6, the same total as Town’s leading scorer Ross Stearn, one of a host of former City players who now wear the claret and blue.
Town name an unchanged squad from the weekend, with Head of Football Rob Dray remarking:” Regardless of how well we played on Saturday, we didn’t get the right result, so we now have an immediate chance to put that right. Tomorrow is a massive game, a Somerset derby against a big club like Bath who are right up there with us. We have to be much more clinical in both boxes if we want to get the right result though as it will be a very tough game, but this team have proved before they can bounce back from disappointment, and I have no doubts they can do it again.”
