The Peacocks made it five Vanarama National League South wins from six at Wordsworth Drive with a 2-1 victory over Eastbourne Borough at Wordsworth Drive this afternoon although the final scoreline conveys a closer game than in reality with Borough’s consolation goal coming deep into stoppage time.
After missing several chances, Town grabbed the advantage three minutes before the break when a Lee Lucas cross found Nat Jarvis whose header was parried by keeper Ben Dudzinski and Cameron Evans followed up to fire home. Peacocks’ keeper Dan Lavercombe pulled off a superb stop straight after the break, turning an Imran Uche strike onto the woodwork before the home side doubled their lead on 55 minutes, a free kick into the box eventually being finished off by Ross Stearn who made room to slot across Dudzinski into the far corner. Borough did find the net five minutes into added time when Decarrey Sheriff headed home a left-wing cross but the Peacocks had done enough to claim a deserved win which puts them top of the NLS table for the first time in their history.
