The Peacocks’ 100% pre-season record will be put to the test when they welcome Exeter City to Wordsworth Drive for another friendly game tomorrow evening (18th July), ko 7.45pm.
Three victories over Clevedon Town, Cribbs and Willand Rovers have seen Town yet to concede a goal, but tomorrow’s match will be a far sterner challenge against League One City who finished in 14th spot last season. Similar to the Peacocks, Exeter have also yet to have a goal scored against them from three friendly outings, having won 1-0 at Tiverton Town and 8-0 at Mousehole before fighting out a 0-0 draw at our National League rivals Bath City on Saturday.
This will be the eighth successive year that the two teams have met in pre-season with Town welcoming Joe Guest back to the squad after missing the last two games while Nick McCootie also returns but Ross Stearn is unavailable and Nat Jarvis still has a sore leg. It is also hoped that paperwork for a new striker will be processed in time for him to be included against the Grecians. Selected trialists are also set to feature at some point during the game.
Head of Football Rob Dray commented:” Playing Exeter in pre-season is always a game we look forward to and the timing of it is nailed on. We need to be starved of the ball, we need to be pushed and tested, and this will happen against a League One side. There have been some pleasing aspects in the three games we’ve played but there are also many things to improve on and tomorrow will be another chance to do this as we make further progress towards the new season.”
