A controversial red card on the stroke of half time proved the turning point as the Peacocks lost 3-1 at Hampton & Richmond Borough in the Vanarama National League South this evening.
It marked a disappointing end to Town’s long week on the road after they had fought back to level the game during a frenetic first half. Ruaridh Donaldson fired the hosts ahead after 12 minutes when an Alfie Whittingham shot deflected to him inside the box before the Peacocks equalised five minutes later, Jake Wannell slotting home from close range following a Lloyd James corner. Nat Jarvis was sent off just before the break for an alleged foul on Donaldson which left Town to play the second half with ten men. Despite a brave effort it was not to be. Donaldson restored the hosts’ lead after 58 minutes when he got on the end of Jake Gray’s corner and it was game over on 74 minutes when a break down the left ended with Alfy Whittingham firing in off the crossbar to secure the league double. Defeat sees the Peacocks remain in 18th spot as they now prepare for the visit of leaders Ebbsfleet on Saturday.
