After securing their inaugural Vanarama National League South double last weekend, the Peacocks go in search of another when they travel to Cheshunt tomorrow afternoon (11th March), ko 3.00pm.
Victory over the Ambers at the Cygnet Health Care Stadium earlier in the season marked the second game undefeated for Town in what ended in a five match unbeaten League run and a similar sequence or better would do just fine under present circumstances. Tuesday’s setback to Hampton & Richmond Borough made it three losses from the last four games for the Peacocks who lie in 17th spot, and they will make their first ever visit to Theobalds Lane knowing they really need to get something from a game against a side one point and two places lower in 19th but who have tasted defeat just three times in 12 League outings since the turn of the year. Seven of those dozen matches have ended in draws including last weekend’s notable point at Havant & Waterlooville which Cheshunt followed with a 3-0 success at Dover in midweek so they will not be short of confidence tomorrow on home turf where they have beaten leaders Ebbsfleet this season.
Despite a run of form which has seen them earn only five points from 24, the Peacocks have sufficient games in hand to steer well clear of the bottom four. A repeat of last Saturday’s performance would certainly warm the away contingent on what is forecast to be a chilly day and due to temperatures expected to drop below zero tonight, there will be a pitch inspection at 8.00am.
Town welcome back keeper Jack Bycroft after he has missed the last four games due to a triceps injury while defender Ollie Tomlinson has returned to Torquay United following his loan. Head of Football Rob Dray remarked:” Tomorrow is a great chance to bounce back and find some consistency in our game after the ups and downs of the past week. We showed what we can do last weekend but then undid the good work with a disappointing showing in midweek. Again we need to be better in both boxes, cut out sloppy mistakes and be more decisive as we were last week. It is going to be another long journey and a tough game against a side who are battling for points so like I say every week, we have to be on our game.”
