The Peacocks play only their third Saturday home game in three months when they host Dover Athletic in the Vanarama National League South tomorrow afternoon (25th February), ko 3.00pm.
Weekend football at the Cygnet Health Care Stadium has been something of a rarity in recent months, with Town only hosting six games on a Saturday in all competitions since the start of October for a variety of reasons. They will therefore be keen to put on a good performance for home fans against a side who sit immediately above them in the table in 15th spot, four points ahead but having played six more games. A win for the Peacocks tomorrow, although having no impact on their current position in the table, would be a very important result as they look to halt a run of four games without a win and climb up to mid-table security.
After beating the Peacocks 1-0 in the corresponding fixture last month, Dover only picked up one point from their next four games. However they have steadied the ship and are now unbeaten in three League outings, their last two games seeing them beat Eastbourne 2-1 at the Crabble followed by a goalless home draw with Chelmsford last weekend. On their travels they have won three of their 16 matches so far but have strengthened their ranks this week with the signing of former Crystal Palace winger Brandon Pierrick and he is in the squad for tomorrow’s game.
Striker Nat Jarvis is unlikely to feature for the Peacocks after tweaking his hamstring on Tuesday in the warm-up before the Oxford City game. Head of Football Rob Dray is keen to build on the second half midweek performance. “After Tuesday night we go again. We realise the importance of home games and need to make sure those fine margins at this level increasingly fall in favour of us. We did enough to win the Oxford game after our second half display so it is important we start tomorrow in the same fashion. We are still on a journey at this level, and we continue to embrace it but there is a lot of hard work to do between now and the end of April to make sure we stay in the National League next season and beyond.”
