The Peacocks have it all to do in next week’s 2nd leg after they lost 2-0 to Royston Town in the Southern League Challenge Cup Final 1st leg at the Cygnet Health Care Stadium this evening.
The opening 45 minutes proved unfortunate for Town in more ways than one, the visitors grabbing the lead after just 5 minutes when Spyros Mentis played in Brooklyn Illunga to smash the ball home past stand-in keeper Connor Sidley-Adams. The Peacocks then lost Ross Stearn who was taken to hospital with an injury to his shoulder before Matthew Bateman was put through to deservedly double Royston’s lead a minute before the interval. The home side made more of a fist of it in the second half and were unlucky not to reduce the arrears when a Lloyd James free kick hit the crossbar. Illunga also hit the post for the Crows but there were no further goals, leaving Town facing an uphill battle in Hertfordshire next week.
