The Peacocks look to bounce back from their first defeat in 19 matches when they host Yate Town in the Southern League tomorrow evening (1st March), ko 7.45pm.
Saturday’s setback at Harrow Borough also ended a run of 10 consecutive League wins but despite losing some ground on the teams above them, Town remain in 4th spot and know that they are still masters of their own destiny as if they won their remaining fixtures they would actually win the title. That is a massive ‘if’ with a number of hard games and crunch battles coming up, starting with the visit of the Bluebells to the Cygnet Health Care Stadium tomorrow. Yate are still very much in the hunt for a play-off place themselves, lying in 8th place but with games in hand to launch a challenge, and will be eager to recover from their 4-0 home defeat to Metropolitan Police at the weekend. The game previous to that though had seen them win 2-1 at long-time leaders Farnborough, part of a good run of only two defeats in 15 games since the Peacocks drew 0-0 at the South West Interiors Stadium in November. A testing evening is on the agenda then, with the Peacocks keen to erase the memories of Yate’s last two visits to the Cygnet which have produced 4-1 and 4-0 victories for the Bluebells in 2017 and 2019 respectively.
Head of Football Rob Dray selects from the same squad as Saturday, saying:” Our mentality has to be the same as it has been in recent months. We were below standard for 45 minutes on Saturday but overall we’ve had a great run and we now need to apply ourselves again as good teams get straight back on it.”
