The Peacocks are next in action this coming Saturday (15th January) when they welcome Wimborne Town to the Cygnet Health Care Stadium. Our Matchday Mascots will be Ruishton Under 9’s and it will be a poignant afternoon for one of their players Charlie Rutherford who along with his brother and sister will be leading the mascots onto the pitch.
In May 2021, the Rutherford family from Creech St Michael received devastating news when mum Katharine was diagnosed with a Grade 4 Glioblastoma, an aggressive type of brain cancer. After a short yet courageous battle, Katharine passed away in July that year leaving her husband Charlie, and her children Charlie 8, Albie 6, and Lyla 4, heartbroken.
Katharine’s Sunshine Glioblastoma Trust is a new charity named in her honour. Her husband Charlie has shared below a touching tribute to his wonderful wife, affectionately known to her friends and family as Coops, and also shares the aims for the charity:
“My ambition for the trust is simple. It’s to raise money into the research of prolonging the life of somebody diagnosed with a grade 4 Glioblastoma. To allow them and their loved ones the time to have that one last holiday of a lifetime, to make precious memories for those left behind.
My wife was an inspiration to all of us. She still and will forever shine bright in those that knew her. Coops was a no fuss, genuine, beautiful mother and wife. Her values were all about her children and our happiness as family. She would want others to have as much time together as possible. She was diagnosed with this horrendous terminal illness and passed 3 months later. This is no time at all. She would want others to have more before they go.
This was her, and this is her now, encouraging us all to think about others. This charity is primarily about one day helping with the research of finding a cure, but in the short term it is about time. Let’s raise as much as we can to make her smile down at us in helping others.”
Taunton Town FC would like to help support the family and Katharine’s Sunshine Glioblastoma Trust, so we have set up a JustGiving page to help raise funds for further research. The page can be found HERE and any pennies that you can kindly donate would be gratefully received.
