After nearly a two week break from football over the festive period, the Peacocks return to Southern League action with a big local derby when they welcome Tiverton Town to the Cygnet Health Care Stadium tomorrow afternoon (3rd January), ko 3.00pm.
With last week’s match against Truro falling victim to the weather, this will be the first time Town have played since they thrashed Harrow Borough 7-1 in the week before Christmas and a similar performance against their Devon rivals tomorrow would be a perfect way to kick off 2022. Tiverton are currently sitting in 17th spot and have secured just one win from their past eight League fixtures, having drawn four of their five most recent games, but this record will count for nothing tomorrow in the heat of a derby game. The Peacocks come into the game undefeated in their last seven competitive games so will not be short of confidence as they seek to extend their good run of form. Results yesterday saw Town move down to 9th in the table but they have a substantial number of games in hand on four of the teams above them so a three point return against the Yellows would be another step in the right direction with a busy month ahead.
The squad is the same as that which would have been on duty against Truro, with Jake Wannell back following suspension but Dan Sullivan and Ben Adelsbury still absent through injury. Goalkeeper Lloyd Irish is missing as he has Covid. Head of Football Rob Dray commented:” After a small, enforced break we go into a mad, busy period in January which is going to set up the last three months of the season so in some respects the break has helped. We start off the new year with a derby and as usual, it will be who makes least mistakes and who wants it more.”
