The Peacocks face two very tough games in the space of 48 hours beginning with the trip to take on early League leaders Hayes & Yeading United tomorrow afternoon (28th August), ko 3.00pm.
After winning their opening two League fixtures with Wimborne and Dorchester, Town came unstuck against Metropolitan Police last Saturday when the visitors returned eastwards with a 1-0 victory despite the home side dominating much of the game. Having had a week off, the Peacocks will be keen to bounce back with a positive result in West London but will have their work cut out. United have proved difficult customers since the two sides first met two seasons ago, although Town have managed a draw on both their previous visits to the SkyEx Community Stadium. This fixture was the curtain raiser to the terminated 2020-21 season last September, when Toby Holmes put the Peacocks ahead only for the visitors to concede an equaliser three minutes from time.
This time around Hayes & Yeading have started the season with a bang. A comfortable 3-0 home win over Swindon Supermarine on the opening day was followed by a 6-2 away drubbing of Hendon, with Moses Emmanuel scoring four, before United made it three from three with a 3-1 success at Yate Town last weekend. The pacy Hayes front line of Emmanuel, Amartey and Jalloh have already bagged 10 goals between them so the Peacocks defence will need to be on top of their game tomorrow.
The Peacocks welcome Dan Sullivan and Ben Adelsbury back into the squad for the first time this season following injuries but Jared Lewington, Lee Lucas and Ioan Richards remain doubts. Head of Football Rob Dray commented:” Tomorrow is one of the hardest away games of the season so we fully realise we will need to be at our best. Hayes have made an excellent start and are a good footballing side, so we know it is going to be a challenge. We still don’t have a fully fit complement of players so we will need to make full use of the squad, but we are looking forward to battling it out against one of the best sides in the division.”
