The Peacocks play their first home fixture of the Pitching In Southern League season when they welcome Dorchester Town to the Cygnet Health Care Stadium tomorrow evening (17thAugust), ko 7.45pm.
Town will hope to build on their opening game of the campaign which saw them gain a convincing 4-1 victory at Wimborne Town on Saturday. Dorchester meanwhile suffered a 2-1 home reverse to Beaconsfield Town, conceding the winner in the first minute of stoppage time after Tiago Sa had cancelled out the visitor’s opener. The Magpies have struggled in the last two shortened seasons, being in last place when the 2019-20 campaign was terminated early and then one place off the bottom after 7 games before the season was cancelled.
They will be hoping for better fortunes this time around under ex-Peacock player Robbie Herrera who took over the reins last November following the departure of former Taunton boss Leigh Robinson. Over the summer he has recruited several new additions to the squad including ex-Wimborne keeper Gerard Benfield on loan from Weymouth and winger Christos Papakonstantinou who has been with AFC Bournemouth Academy.
The Peacocks will go into their opening home game with confidence after the weekend’s decisive win at New Cuthbury. They have injury doubts over striker Jared Lewington who scored twice on Saturday and Lee Lucas, both of whom had to be substituted after picking up knocks during the game. Dan Sullivan and Ben Adelsbury are also still missing through injury. Head of Football Rob Dray said:” Momentum is always key, and tomorrow is massive for us as we want to build on the result at Wimborne. Whilst three points on the opening day was exactly what we wanted, we know we can improve and there are still things to work on. It’s always difficult to play against Dorchester and it will be another big test in a short space of time. It will be great to play at home again in a competitive match and we’re hoping there will be a big crowd in tomorrow to support us as that can make a substantial difference.”
