The Peacocks begin their Buildbase FA Trophy involvement when they entertain League rivals Truro City in the 3rd Round Qualifying tomorrow afternoon (31st October), kick-off 3.00pm.
This will be the third time already this season that the two sides have crossed paths with Town having the better of the meetings so far, drawing a League encounter 1-1 in Cornwall courtesy of a Nick Grimes goal before ousting the White Tigers from the Emirates FA Cup after a 4-2 victory at the Cygnet Health Care Stadium, Toby Holmes netting a hat trick with the other from Gethyn Hill. Following that tie, Truro lost their next match at Hayes & Yeading United but have recovered to win their last two league games, the most recent being on Tuesday evening when they beat Wimborne Town 4-1 at Treyew Road.
The Peacocks’ form has also been patchy since that performance took them into the final qualifying round of the FA Cup, suffering their first defeat of the season to Metropolitan Police four days later and then being dumped out of the FA Cup last weekend at Tonbridge Angels. A return to winning ways was achieved on Tuesday with a not totally convincing victory over Dorchester so there is definite room for improvement for the Peacocks which will need to happen tomorrow against a City side who will undoubtedly be fired up to gain payback for the recent Cup defeat. The winners of tomorrow’s tie will earn £3,750 prize money with the losers consoling themselves with £1,000, and similarly to the FA Cup, there will be no replays in the Trophy this season with the game going straight to penalties if the scores are level after 90 minutes.
Town have been dealt a blow with the news that midfielder Lee Lucas will be out for six weeks after a scan revealed he has a broken metatarsal bone in his foot. Lucas joined the club from Merthyr Town over the summer but was injured during pre-season and has only made substitute appearances to date. Head of Football Rob Dray said:” After an important win on Tuesday, it’s great to have another cup game at home. We go into it with no fear after matching the league favourites twice this year. We all know each other well so hopefully Storm Aiden calms down and we can get a game on.”
