Two early goals set the Peacocks on their way to a 4-1 victory over Blackfield & Langley in the BetVictor Southern League this afternoon (16th November).
It was just the tonic Town needed as they bounced back from their FA Trophy disappointment although the visitors will probably feel the final scoreline was harsh. The Peacocks were ahead after just six minutes when Lloyd Irish’s goal kick was latched onto by Andrew Neal whose lob from the edge of the box beat advancing keeper Lewis Noice, with the hosts doubling their tally four minutes later when Neal found Ryan Brett in the middle and he fired home into the corner. Both sides had opportunities during the remainder of the half without either keeper really being tested before Blackfield pulled a goal back eleven minutes into the second half through Charlie Gunson who turned in the area to curl a first time finish beyond Lloyd Irish. This goal galvanized the visitors who upped the pressure, Gunson firing against the crossbar after one attack. Town rode the storm and sealed the points with two more goals in the last ten minutes. Matt Wright stretched out his leg to touch in Neal’s centre on 80 minutes and Jamie Short received a pass inside and ran into the box where his shot took a deflection to find the bottom corner three minutes from time as the Peacocks finished strongly to claim victory and lift themselves back up into fifth spot in the table.
