Taunton Town relinquished top spot follow a 2-2 draw with Hartley Wintney yesterday afternoon (9 Mar).
The Peacocks fell behind against the run of play after failing to clear Steven Duff’s cross which gifted Mitchell Parker the opportunity to open the scoring. Town huffed and puffed and were rewarded 4 minutes from the break as Dan Sullivan found the back of the net from range which saw the sides go in level at the half-time.
The visitors started the second period the brighter and re-established the lead as Duff converted a cross from Mitchell, both of whom gave Rob Dray’s side a headache all afternoon.
Once again, Town managed to peg the visitor back and Rocky Neal cooley dispatched a penalty that he had himself earnt a few moments prior to finding the net.
To top off a disappointing afternoon for the former league leaders both sides were reduced to 10 men within the final 5 minutes as Ben Adelsbury and Marley Ridge both walked for second bookable offences.
Following the match Head of Football Rob Dray said, “We slipped below our usual standards as a group today which has been a first this season. The players have been excellent this year and this was the first time we had more than one or two way below where we should be. Importantly, we didn’t lose and we are still second with plenty of points to play for. I’m in no doubt, as we have proved again and again, we will keep going.”
