Taunton Town recorded a league double over rivals Tiverton Town in the Boxing Day derby at the Viridor Stadium earlier this afternoon.
In front of 1,377 spectators the Peacocks broke the deadlock on 23 minutes through a Rocky Neal penalty following a trip on Taunton’s skipper Matt Wright.
Wright got on the score sheet himself 9 minutes before the break as he crashed a header into the back of the net from Matt Buse’s cross.
Steve Colwell pulled one back for the visitors on 69 minutes as he tapped home Josh Key’s ball into the box to set the game up for a hard fought final 20 minutes.
The visitors handed Taunton a man advantage five minutes later as Harrison Davies received a straight red for a stamp on Ryan Brett and the game ended with a 2-1 victory for Rob Dray’s side who maintain their 7 point advantage over Weymouth who visit the Viridor Stadium in 3 days time.
Commenting after today’s victory Rob Dray said, “It was great to do the league double over Tivvy today. I thought we were thoroughly good value for the win and on another day we could have scored more. A fantastic turnout from the Taunton faithful and now we refocus for Weymouth this Saturday at the Viridor Stadium.”
