The Peacocks suffered their second cup knock-out in the space of three days after they lost 3-1 to Weymouth in the 1st Qualifying Round of the Buildbase FA Trophy yesterday afternoon (27th October).
Town were below their best and can have no grumbles as the Terras gained a deserved win. Abdulai Baggie struck the crossbar for the visitors early on before they took the lead after 12 minutes, top scorer Brandon Goodship finding space to drive past Lloyd Irish. Weymouth doubled their advantage four minutes into the second half when Stephane Zubar slammed home from close range after a Josh Wakefield corner had caused panic in the home area. Peacock hopes were raised when Matt Wright headed in Ryan Brett’s free kick to pull a goal back after 62 minutes but Weymouth rode out a spell of pressure to add their final goal with 12 minutes remaining, Baggie’s burst of pace setting up Wakefield to convert easily and seal their progress to the next round.
Reaction | Head of Football Rob Dray remarked: “Keeping our levels was always going to be difficult today but at the same time my expectations are high for these boys. Weymouth are without doubt a National League side in waiting and today showed why they are top of our division. Seven games in 21 days showed in our performance today but the boys have been superb in that period with three games against National League South sides plus Weymouth today. We still have work to do so we will regroup ready to go again next Saturday.”
