The Peacocks recovered from their weekend defeat to beat Dorchester Town 2-1 in the Evo-Stik League yesterday evening (16th October).
All the goals came in a first half in which Town often found themselves under the cosh until a vast improvement after the break saw them get on top. The hosts dominated the first quarter but found themselves behind after 19 minutes when Andrew Neal crossed from the right for Craig Veal to net with a header via the underside of the bar.
Dorchester’s pressure paid off with the equaliser on 32 minutes with Luke Winsper latching onto Arron Rodriguez’s pass to clip the ball over Lloyd Irish. Pierce Mitchell saw his header hit the post from Shane White’s cross before Town scored what proved to be the winner one minute into first half stoppage time. White swung in a free kick which Callum Rose headed towards his own net and Neal raced in to make sure by nodding into the open goal. The Peacocks had the best of the second half but couldn’t add to their lead although Matt Wright and Ollie Chamberlain both came close.
The victory lifts Town back up to second in the table and gives them the perfect boost ahead of this Saturday’s Emirates FA Cup 4th Qualifying Round tie at Billericay Town.
Reaction | Rob Dray commented: “Tonight was about the result after three games in six days coupled with suspensions and injuries. We dug in after a first half when Dorchester played their 4g pitch very well but in the second half we showed huge resilience. Even more important is that we’re going into two massive cup games on the back of three points in the league.”
