Instead of the next stage of the Emirates FA Cup playing out at the Viridor Stadium tomorrow afternoon (6th October), it’s the staple diet of the Evo-Stik League when Frome Town are the visitors, kick-off 3.00pm.
The Peacocks were of course scheduled to play either St Albans City or Corinthian Casuals in a 3rd Round Qualifying tie but these two sides now have to replay tomorrow after drawing 1-1 on Tuesday evening, their tie being delayed due to an appeal by Whyteleafe who were expelled after beating Casuals in an earlier round. Town will now meet the winners of the replay on Wednesday evening but first they have the more pressing matter of getting back on course in the league following their 4-1 setback at Metropolitan Police last weekend, their first league defeat in six matches. The fixture with Frome, originally scheduled for tomorrow, was reinstated once the FA Cup situation was known and gives the Peacocks an opportunity to maintain their impressive home form, having scored 15 goals in their last three matches.
The Robins come to the Viridor sitting in 14th position after somewhat of an inconsistent start to the season. After failing to win in their opening four league games, they then beat Merthyr and Kings Langley before they bounced back from defeat at Farnborough and an FA Cup exit at Winchester to see off Walton Casuals 3-0 last Saturday. The Peacocks will be fully aware though that no opposition at this level can be taken lightly so they will need an improved performance from seven days ago to see a return to winning ways.
Town will be missing skipper Matt Wright who is suspended for three games following his dismissal at Metropolitan Police while Dan Sullivan faces a fitness test, otherwise the squad is unchanged from last weekend.
Acting manager Rob Dray remarked: “There was never any question of resting anyone with Wednesday in mind, we will be as strong as possible and after last week will as a unit be a lot more convincing defensively. Frome are on the back of a great win and are a battle hardened established team in this division so concentration in both boxes will be crucial in the next week and this starts tomorrow.”
