The Peacocks have no chance to dwell on the ins and outs of yesterday’s Evo-Stik League game against Hendon as they are in action again tomorrow (27th August) when they make the short trip to old rivals Tiverton Town, kick-off 3.00pm.
It took an injury time equaliser to ensure Town secured a point on Saturday, their third game in succession where a goal in the last five minutes has proved crucial in the outcome of the match. The draw against Hendon leaves Town in 6th place, three points behind tomorrow’s opponents Tiverton who currently sit on top of the table, having not yet lost. An opening day win at Swindon Supermarine was followed by home victories over Frome and Walton Casuals before they dropped points for the first time yesterday, an injury time equaliser steering them to a 2-2 draw at Harrow Borough. The scene is set then for an intriguing encounter, their first since the Play-Offs of 2017 with only six players who were involved in that game still with the Peacocks now.
Town name the same squad as yesterday with the hopeful addition of a new signing subject to paperwork.
Manager Leigh Robinson said: “There will be a lot of talk this season about who the better side is out of Taunton and Tiverton but that will be decided in April, not tomorrow, so we’re approaching it like any other game as we always work on a required number of wins, no matter who they come against. We were below par on Saturday but maybe it was a jolt that we needed. However, we will certainly be hoping for a better display tomorrow.”
