After their comfortable opening day victory over Staines Town, the Peacocks hit the road for the first time in the Evo-Stik Premier Division when they travel to Weymouth tomorrow evening (14th August), kick-off 7.45pm.
Saturday’s curtain raiser couldn’t have gone much better for Town but they are likely to find the trip to Dorset a much harder proposition against one of the promotion favourites who finished in 5th spot last season to reach the Play-Offs but lost out to King’s Lynn in the semi-finals. The Terras started their campaign with a 3-2 win at Harrow Borough at the weekend courtesy of a hat trick from Brandon Goodship, the Premier Division’s leading goalscorer in 2017-18, so Town will need to guard against his threat as well as having to contend with a large home support, with Weymouth averaging 780 for league matches at the Bob Lucas Stadium last season, the joint second highest in the division behind Hereford. However the Peacocks will not be lacking in confidence following a 35 game unbeaten league run.
There are injury doubts over Keith Emmerson and Ben Adelsbury for the game with both likely to face fitness tests while international clearance has still not yet come through for Douglas Camilo.
Manager Leigh Robinson remarked: “On paper it’s potentially the hardest game of the season but playing clubs like Weymouth is where we wanted to be and certainly where we see ourselves as a club so going shoulder to shoulder with these clubs is something we’ll relish. It was a good start on Saturday but we’re under no illusions that tomorrow will be a much bigger test against arguably the favourites for the league this year.”
