The Peacocks completed their pre-season schedule unbeaten as they defeated a Bristol City XI 3-1 at the Viridor Stadium yesterday evening (6th August).

Connor Evans rifled the visitors ahead after just six minutes from a Jake Andrews’ corner and a slick City threatened to add to their lead during the first half. It was a different story after the break though as Town upped their game.

Ryan Brett fired home a great free kick after 62 minutes to bring the sides level before Andrew ‘Rocky’ Neal bagged a brace to clinch victory. Dan Sullivan lofted a pass over the defence for Neal to volley past Alhaji Sesay after 69 minutes and the striker then headed in at the far post from Pierce Mitchell’s deep cross 15 minutes from time. The win saw the Peacocks amass five victories and a draw from their friendlies and sets them up nicely for this Saturday’s opening Evo-Stik League game at home to Staines Town.

Reaction | manager Leigh Robinson commented: “It was a really good performance and a lovely way to round off pre-season. Of course we gain a bit of confidence from winning a game against a side like Bristol City U23’s and hopefully gives the fans a bit of a buzz too but we need to remember that it was just a friendly and no one wins anything in pre-season. The real games start Saturday and our attention must now turn to this as ultimately that is where we are judged. Pre-season has gone fantastically well though. Our fitness is phenomenal, we’ve scored goals, Rocky has come in and been fantastic, all the players have had a good number of minutes and of course the spirit is as good as ever so we’re looking forward to the season.”
