The Peacocks play their second friendly in two days when they travel to meet Melksham Town tomorrow evening (2nd August), kick-off 7.45pm.
The trip to Wiltshire will give Town another good test ahead of the Southern League opener at home to Staines Town on Saturday week. Melksham finished as runners-up to Street in the Western League Premier Division last season and as a result have been promoted to the Southern League Division One South where they will debut at home to Evesham United on 18th August. Tomorrow’s game will also give Town fans the opportunity of sampling the Oakfield Stadium, Melksham’s new ground which they moved into in January 2017.
Tuesday’s win over Tavistock made it three wins and a draw so far in the Peacocks’ pre-season programme and with only one warm-up match remaining after tomorrow, preparations are really hotting up for the first ever campaign at Southern Premier level.
The squad for Melksham will be missing Keith Emmerson, Ben Adelsbury and Dan Sullivan due to work commitments while Craig Veal remains doubtful due to tonsillitis. Pierce Mitchell though returns after being absent for the Tavistock game again through work.
Manager Leigh Robinson commented: “We’ve a few players missing tomorrow so it is likely we will need to experiment a bit with personnel and formation. This will give us a good chance to look at the trialists as we’ve had to focus up to now on getting minutes into the existing squad.”
