The Peacocks gained a convincing first home Southern League Premier South win of the season as they beat Marlow 5-2 at the Cygnet Health Care Stadium this afternoon.
Town notched three goals in six first half minutes, breaking the deadlock after 23 minutes when Tom Purrington squared for Owen Brain to slot into an empty net before the lead was doubled just three minutes later when Alfie Moulden steered home the loose ball after Tom Smith’s shot had been parried. Blues’ keeper Finn Rushton then misjudged Eddie Jones’ long ball and Smith had the easy task of converting into an open goal for a 3-0 lead after 29 minutes.
Taunton added a fourth five minutes into the second half, Smith advancing to fire home a delightful finish from 15 yards before Elijah Oladunjoye reduced the arrears a minute later with a header from a corner. Brain set up Purrington for a close range fifth after 62 minutes for the home side but Marlow had the final say when scoring their second after 79 minutes when Harry Hoath volleyed in from a cleared corner.
