Lloyd Irish Set for 400th Appearance this Saturday

This Saturday, Taunton Town host Uxbridge at the Cygnet Health Care Stadium, looking to build on a fantastic six-point Easter Bank Holiday which saw the Peacocks sweep aside both league champions Walton & Hersham and second-placed Gloucester City.
This match, however, carries extra significance as we are set to celebrate a rare and unique achievement for Head of Football and goalkeeper Lloyd Irish, who makes his 400th appearance for Taunton Town, far and away a record for a goalkeeper.
Lloyd made his debut against AFC Hayes in November 2008 and, although he left the club in the summer of 2010, he returned in 2013 and went on to make over 200 consecutive appearances, a run which ended when he travelled to Australia to meet his wife, Orla.
Lloyd even managed to get on the scoresheet in December 2015 in a home match against North Leigh, with a clearance that eluded everyone. The 2016/17 season saw Lloyd make the most appearances, featuring in all 61 matches.
First and foremost, Lloyd has been a great servant to TTFC, having been elected to join the board in 2024 and becoming Head of Football. During this time, Lloyd also stepped in as goalkeeper during the 2024/25 Somerset County Cup games to extend his appearance tally.
The 2025/26 season has seen Lloyd’s role expand further, supporting Gary Johnson pitch-side as assistant coach, and most recently coming on as a substitute on Good Friday when Freddie Godden was injured, as Taunton secured a fantastic 3–0 win. Once again, Lloyd proved the club’s ‘saving grace’, playing 90 minutes at Gloucester on Easter Monday, where he kept another clean sheet in a 2–0 away win. Congratulations from everyone at TTFC, past and present, on a momentous achievement, Lloyd.
Uxbridge come into the fixture in fantastic form too. They have picked up seven wins and two draws from their last 10 matches, with just one defeat, which came on Valentine’s Day in a 4–1 loss to Farnham Town. That record is hugely impressive, but they have only won four more games than the Peacocks all season, which highlights just how much they have improved since the start of the campaign. Unfortunately for the Reds, their charge for the play-offs has fallen short, and they will not have enough to secure a place, as even if they win all three of their remaining games, Berkhamsted need just one point to finish above them mathematically.
Johnson’s Thoughts:
“Nobody’s ever given up. I don’t think we can pick a game, since I’ve been here, where the boys didn’t show commitment or desire. We’ve lost on a few occasions, but at home it’s been great. We’ve come from behind to collect draws and wins, and away from home we were in every game. It was nice to finally get our reward on Monday, but you can’t rely on it just “happening” for you by being out there. You’ve got to put in that energy, and that’s what we did all weekend. We’re one happy club at the moment, but we absolutely have to make sure that we see it through to the end of the season so we end up a happy club. We haven’t given up, and we won’t give up, that’s for sure.
“He’s been unbelievable (Lloyd Irish). Let’s get a load of people there for his 400th game, and together we can make it a great occasion.”
