Comfortable operating in either defence or midfield, Austen signed for the club in May 2023, having had wide ranging experience with a number of non-league clubs. After graduating through the ranks at hometown club Torquay United, he joined Truro City in the summer of 2017. He went on to have a loan spell at Barnstaple Town later in 2017 before playing more frequently for Truro. A further loan at Buckland Athletic followed before he cemented a first team spot in the City side towards the end of the 2018-19 campaign. He returned to Buckland ahead of the 2020-21 season but then switched to Tiverton in November 2020, however due to the termination of the season because of Covid he was unable to make his Yellows’ debut until the following season. Austen signed for Plymouth Parkway in the summer of 2022 and went on to scoop both the Supporters and Players’ Player of the Year awards in the club’s debut season at Southern Premier level.
