Match Report

A much changed Peacocks line up reached the semi finals of the Somerset Premier Cup with a narrow win at the Viridor.

The visitors had a good chance early in the game but captain Joe Garland’s attempt at a lob went straight to Taunton keeper Lloyd Irish, who was Taunton Town captain for the night.

Taunton’s first real chance fell to Les Afful after 26 minutes but his volley went just wide. Just four minutes later Craig Veal was in with just keeper Tom Drewitt to beat but Welton’s custodian made a block with his legs and the chance was gone.

The only goal of the game came six minutes before the break as a Lucas Tomlinson corner fell to Noah Coppin whose shot was blocked. Unfortunately for the visitors the clearance hit Tom Manley and ended up in the back of the net.

The visitors had an immediate chance to hit back but Lewis Coleman’s shot hit the bar just three minutes later.

Welton’s task was made harder ten minutes after the break when Joe Battrick, who was booked for a foul in the first half, made one comment too many to referee Scott Jackson and Battrick’s game was over.

Afful tried his best to mark his return with a goal but a shot from a narrow angle after an hour hit the angle of post and crossbar.

Welton hit the woodwork again just two minutes from time when a rasping shot by Shekiel Green rattled against the post but it was Taunton who emerged triumphant to earn a semi final away to Frome Town with Weston super Mare hosting Paulton Rovers in the other semi final.
