The Peacocks continued their unbeaten pre-season campaign with victory over their Devon visitors who had come out on top in last season’s FA Cup meeting.
Tavistock who finished as runners-up in the Peninsula League last season made a bright start before the hosts responded, Andrew Neal forcing Josh Oak to palm aside his left footed effort and Shane White heading over from the resultant corner. Oak then made an even better save, getting his fingertips to another Neal strike after Town’s summer signing had beaten two men cutting in from the right. Captain Matt Wright found himself free in the box but he was also denied by the Tavistock keeper’s legs. Lloyd Irish in the home goal was kept busy as well, holding a long range shot from Glyn Hobbs and then getting down smartly to divert another attempt from the same player after he had turned in the box.
Tavistock continued to be a hard nut to crack after the interval. Attacking the Invest Southwest End Wright headed just wide from Shane White’s cross and Dan Sullivan’s shot was deflected wide while Irish pouched a 20 yard Hobbs free kick. The breakthrough eventually came after 73 minutes when Ryan Brett threaded a pass through to Neal who rounded Oak and slotted home from the left side. Neal then raced away down the right just two minutes later and deftly chipped Oak for a lovely finish to make it 2-0. Ben Adelsbury saw his long distance free kick touched over before the scoring was concluded eight minutes from time. Following a free kick given for catching a back pass, White’s close range effort was blocked on the line and Brett’s follow-up befell the same fate but it was deemed there had been a handball to keep it out. Neal stepped up to rifle the penalty into the roof of the net and keep the Peacocks’ unbeaten pre-season ticking along nicely.
