The club is delighted to announce our official youth development partnership with Bridgwater & Taunton College. This exciting partnership reaffirms our commitment to youth development and will allow for greater opportunities and pathways right through to the Peacocks first team.
Trial dates for U13 & U14’s are Friday 19th May and the U15 & U16’s on Friday 26th May, both being held at Bishops Fox’s School Taunton, between 7-8.30pm and are free to attend.
Peacocks Chairman Kevin Sturmey commented:
“I am delighted that Paul West in his role as Development Coach has recommended to the Board that we run JPL teams at 13-16 age groups and this will further complement and link to the exciting partnerships we will be officially announcing shortly with Bridgwater & Taunton College and University Centre Somerset. It is also fantastic to have current 1st team player Ben Palmer working within this exciting development for young players with a clear pathway and achievable goals”.
Town's Development Coach Paul West remarked:
"It's a massive step in the right direction for the development of young footballers. I'm so pleased the club trusted my judgment on the direction for us to take with youth policy. The partnership with BTC will soon allow us to give the youngsters a pathway all the way to university football and beyond."
Sam Reilly, Head of Sports, Outdoor Education and Public Services at Bridgwater & Taunton College said:
"We are delighted to announce our partnership with Taunton Town FC to help support the development of talented footballers across the South-West of England. It is our aim at Bridgwater and Taunton College to provide outstanding opportunities to students in the local community and this partnership will ensure the highest-quality coaching, guidance and support is available for all players. The JPL programme will link directly to Bridgwater and Taunton College and give students within the JPL setup the opportunity to make a smooth transition into our Sports Performance programmes, where they will be able to compete within the U18 South West Counties Youth League, whilst receiving an outstanding academic offer to support their long-term career ambitions. This pathway will provide a unique opportunity to provide Higher-Education football to students, representing the University Centre Somerset within the British Universities and Colleges Sport leagues which no other college across the South-West of England currently offers. Providing an opportunity that transcends through Secondary, Further and Higher education provides a best practice model to creating home-grown talent that will be pivotal to supporting Taunton Town with their footballing vision"
